BACKGROUND

The Great Rift Valley of Africa runs across the East of Africa and comprises countries that face some of the most difficult energy conditions but also some of the highest growth rates of both production and consumption.

Numerous international organisations, including the United Nations, European Union and African Union have constantly highlighted the inextricable link between more and better energy and overall development in the region.

Energy, thus, has been at the forefront of numerous initiatives in the last few decades and substantial achievements have been seen. A lot more still needs to be done in order to provide adequate, clean, sustainable and affordable energy to the region.

Great Rift Valley Energy Summit II (GRV E II) is the second summit we dedicate to energy in East Africa after the successful first we organised in Nairobi on the 4th and the 5th December 2012. The report and presentations are available on our website.

The GRV E II will take place in Addis Ababa, on the 23rd and the 24th of October, 2013 and is co-organised with Hon. Tegenu ALEMAYEHU, Ethiopia Minister of Water and Energy.

The summit will bring together ministers and senior officials from the ministries dealing with energy in the governments of Burundi, Congo DR, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

Senior government officials choose our summits to announce projects, development plans and hold one-to-one pre-scheduled business meetings with leading industry developers and investors that can actually make a difference to the economies of the countries of the Great Rift Valley.

Please note that the format of our event comprises plenary speeches in the mornings and roundtable meetings in the afternoon, allowing for ample interviewing opportunities.

We trust the GRV E II will be an even greater success than the first one and will provide excellent opportunities for your media to acquire essential insight into the workings of the various systems at play in the Energy sector in East Africa as well as breaking news and exclusive interviews that will give prominence to your media if published.

Please visit the website of the event and please contact me should you require more information
