To whom it may concern:
One of the most emotional and therefore powerful issues facing Ethiopia right now is the treatment of Ethiopians by the Saudi Arabian government. Regardless of where one stands on the issue, the fact remains that 80,000 Ethiopians over the next month will be struggling to put their lives together again after being dumped at Bole Airport.
Companies or organizations that have any interest in helping the Ethiopian people should act now. There is a captive audience of 80,000 people at the airport as we write this letter who could benefit from your company's products or services. Among the services needed by the returnees during the month they are estimated to be staying at the airport are needs associated with: sanitation, hygiene, water, job opportunities, solid waste management, communication to their families, transportation, legal advice, family planning, sexual and reproductive health, nutrition, and many others.
Sometimes these needs can be filled by the traditional NGO's like ICRC, IRC, donor agencies like DFID or USAID, but there are other needs that could be handled by smaller NGO's or even companies.
Our company, Tikuret, is already on the ground at the airport and we are willing to help interested organizations create a presence with these people in need. This is not only a great way to make your product or service known in Ethiopia, but it is a service that, if done well, could very certainly alter the lives of people for the better during this difficult time.
