Press release

Worldhotels Enters into Sub-Saharan Africa

The international hotel group announces strategic partnership with the Azalaï Hotels Group

Frankfurt, 30th September 2014 – Worldhotels expands into Africa by joining forces with the Azalaï Hotels Group – the first African private hotel chain in West Africa. As part of the agreement, six Azalaï Hotels in Burkina Faso, Benin, Mali and Guinea-Bissau have joined Worldhotels' global network of almost 500 hotels worldwide, taking advantage of the group's 360° solution, which offers everything from technology to branding. Additional properties in Nouakchott, Abidjan and Dakar are anticipated to join Worldhotels' portfolio when they open their doors in 2015 and 2016.

Worldhotels sees great potential in Sub-Saharan Africa – a region that is marked by substantial economic growth, which has translated into a rising tourism industry. Both business and leisure travel are accelerating and local hotel operators are increasingly looking for international partners to enhance their global exposure, without having hard standards imposed upon them. The partnership with the Azalaï Hotels Group marks a first and important step in Worldhotels' strategic intention to expand into Africa, and the group is looking for further opportunities within the market.

Worldhotels' distinctive range of business offerings, which are tailored to meet the needs of private hotel operators whilst allowing full operational freedom, was the reason why Mossadeck Bally, founder and CEO of Azalaï Hotels, selected the group as the preferred international partner for his hotels: "Besides offering us their classic affiliation model, Worldhotels also provided us with a technology-only solution for some of our hotels, which doesn't require any dedicated sales or marketing support. For our pipeline projects we particularly trust in Worldhotels' global exposure and 360° services to help us strengthen our position in the international market."

"Azalaï Hotels stand for authentic African hospitality and we are genuinely proud to join forces with this locally and internationally recognised group", comments Kristin Intress, CEO of Worldhotels. "Our strategic partnership is an important milestone, enabling us to accelerate our mutual growth and strengthen our brand positioning. We are particularly glad to expand the Worldhotels network to new destinations in the aspiring sub-Saharan market, offering our guests a greater selection of authentic hotels worldwide."

Azalaï Hotels that have joined the Worldhotels portfolio are:

  • Azalaï Hôtel Indépendance | Ouagadougou | Burkina Faso
  • Azalaï Hôtel De La Plage | Cotonou | Benin
  • Azalaï Grand Hôtel | Bamako | Mali
  • Azalaï Hôtel Salam | Bamako | Mali
  • Azalai Hôtel Dunia | Bamako | Mali
  • Azalaï Hôtel 24 de Setembro | Bissau | Guinea-Bissau

PRESS RELEASE

2014 Africa Hotel Investment Forum to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

30 September 2014

The newly established Ethiopian Tourism Organization, together with the Ethiopian Investment Commission, is very proud to announce that the renowned Africa Hotel Investment Forum will be held at the Sheraton Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia this year.

AHIF 2014 will provide attendees a double benefit of networking and widening their knowledge of Africa, alongside the opportunity to meet good quality prospective local partners – which is an essential first step in making a successful hotel investment anywhere in Africa. The forum will offer a fantastic range of opportunities to promote companies to hotel developers, investors and operators.

According to the World Economic Outlook, Ethiopia's economy has experienced strong and broad based growth over the past decade, averaging 10.6% per year until 2012 compared to the regional average of 4.9%. This growth brought with it positive trends in economic activity, specifically within the investment landscape. The Ethiopian tourism sector is constantly growing and is increasingly getting recognition by leading travel guides and the international media. The government of Ethiopia has recognized the increasing demand throughout the entire tourism value chain and has therefore created suitable investment conditions implemented by the Ethiopian Investment Commission.

Throughout Africa, a growing middle-class, sustained economic growth and recent discoveries of natural resources across the continent are driving demand for quality hotel product. AHIF provides the platform to connect with and learn from the international and local sector leaders of international and local markets and therefore make it easy for investors to delve into the sector.

This event is a tremendous opportunity to showcase investment opportunities in Ethiopia, since the country is not just an attendee but also the host of the forum.  Mangalis Unveils New Hospitality Solutions for the Fast Growing African Market and Beyond

·        Mangalis Hotel Group unveils Yaas Hotels, a revolutionary African brand in the economy segment.

·        New Technology enables a Yaas Hotel to be Designed, Built and Operating in Less Than a year

·        Hotel owners and investors can have a fully operational hotel stress-free with the Mangalis Plug & Play Solution.

·        Greener, Faster and Smarter modular construction in a record time awaits Africa hospitality

·        Ahead of the opening of the Africa Hotel Investment Forum today in Addis Ababa, attended by a dozen tourism ministers and scores of business leaders, Olivier Jacquin, CEO Mangalis Hotel Group unveiled a revolutionary approach to the design and build of new hotels in Africa.

Addis Ababa, 30th September. The African hospitality market desires rapid solutions that can fill the gap between current hotel offer and increasing demand from the new incoming travelers, while meeting the expectations of the investors and hotel owners.

To accompany this rapid evolution, Mangalis, the African born hospitality group, has unveiled today its latest revolutionary economy brand: Yaas Hotels. The new hotel brand is following last year´s launch of Noom Hotels and Seen Hotels, in the upscale and the midscale segments respectively, completing the group pipeline of 16 hotels in 13 African countries.

Mangalis, a new player in the industry, is determined to take advantage of the enormous opportunities arising in the continent, where branded hotel chains´ penetration index is way below mature markets, for example, it is less than% 6 in West Africa, , while Europe is at %26 (including Russia) and USA at %70.

Oliver Jacquin, the Chief Executive Officer of Mangalis Hotel Group underlined: "What we are witnessing in Africa guided us to define our business model and hotels brands to cater for all types of travellers, international or regional, senior or young professionals, coming mainly on2 a business trip or just for a quick getaway. At Mangalis, complementing our existing hotels' brands Noom and Seen, we have created Yaas Hotels, to deliver for the economy segment an unprecedented smart and optimistic design, combined with the latest technology for today travellers."

Yaas Hotels is following the path set by Noom and Seen, merging avant-garde design nurtured by the sensoriality of natural materials, with high-tech features and the service, in the right place, right time and with the right human touch expected by the guests.

For Yaas Hotels creativity was harnessed to redefine the economy segment, and prove that while travelling on a budget, it is also possible to enjoy a combination of trendy design, relax, connectivity and energy lifting sensations.

Mangalis Hotel Group creates brands and innovative hospitality service standards for Africa and the world market, managing their implementation in all properties belonging to their network of branded hotels, in ownership or under management contract.

The group introduced to the market the Mangalis Plug & Play solution, offering to hotel owners the peace of mind with a turn-key solution for the development of a hotel, from design and construction phase to supply chain and operations' management.

Moreover, Jacquin elaborated "In building Yaas Hotels we have opted to enhance our Plug & Play solution introducing the modular construction benefits. This type of building ensures better construction quality management and takes % 80 of the in-site construction operations." Elaborating on the benefits of Plug & Play and the modular construction, Jacquin highlighted: "As owners are looking for faster ROI, costs and timeline control with more sustainable designs, modular construction is obviously a natural fit. Our solutions allow building in a controlled environment and reduce costs and waste. Mangalis is demonstrating its added value through the brands and construction methods which are revolutionary for the African market and beyond.'' 3

Mangalis Hotel Group is committed to place Africa on the roadmap of international hospitality. The first flagship Noom Hotel Conakry in Guinea is set to open in Q1 2015 followed in Q 2 by the first highly innovative Yaas Hotel in Dakar - Almadies. Additional hotels in Pointe Noire, Cotonou and Abidjan will be open in the second semester of 2015, under Noom and Seen brands.

Haile Gebrselassie Confirmed as Keynote Speaker at AHIF

Haile Gebrselassie Confirmed as Keynote Speaker at AHIF

10 September 2014

Bench Events today announced that Haile Gebrselassie, the former Olympic and world athletics champion, has been confirmed as a speaker at the Africa Hotel Investment Forum (AHIF) - Africa's top event for hotel investors, which takes place from the 29th September to 1st October in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Haile Gebrselassie won two Olympic gold medals at 10,000 metres and four world championships at the same distance. He also won major titles at all distances from 1,500 metres to the marathon and during his career he broke 27 world records. He is widely considered as one of the greatest distance runners of all time.

Although he is still a keen runner, with a daily gruelling schedule, he is also a prolific business man. Haile is the owner of three resorts in Ethiopia and an organic coffee farm. He is also the exclusive distributor of Hyundai in Ethiopia and the organiser of 'The Great Run Ethiopia', which attracted over 40,000 runners from around the world last year. Additionally, he is the owner of a real estate company, whose holdings include a cinema dedicated to showing Ethiopian films.

At the AHIF conference he will be interviewed on his life and times as a sportsman and how this has aided him in business and his thoughts on Ethiopia's potential as a tourism destination.

"We are delighted to be able to welcome the world and Olympic champion Haile Gebrselassie as a speaker at our conference. Gebrselassie is a name synonymous with excellence on the athletics field and it is always fascinating to hear how a sportsperson's motivation, dedication and vision enable them to transition to business. To actually have the opportunity to hear the journey and commitments he has made in his lifetime will be an honour. When you visit Addis Ababa it is obvious by the numerous billboards with his face on them that he holds great sway with the local communities so to hear more of his thoughts on the future of the tourism industry will be very interesting", said Matthew Weihs, Managing Director of AHIF - Bench Events.

However, Ethiopia is not the only subject of the conference entitled "Reaching New Heights". The event will focus on the geopolitical and economic climate across the whole continent and the latest developments in the hotel sector. Big issues such as the importance of conserving Africa's tourism assets and connecting each of the African countries through decent, new infrastructure will be discussed too. The feasibility of investing successfully in Africa in general and in hospitality specifically will be explored in a series of panel discussions led by a group of experts on each topic.

Other speakers are drawn from the ranks of government, hotel chains, banks and a range of prominent consultants.
