PRESS RELEASE

Literacy Project Launch: WEEMA international bringing tablet education to

ruler children in Mudula, Tembaro.

Teaching Early Child Literacy Skills to Kindergarten Aged Children Through Digital/Mobile Learning within a Rural Ethiopian Public Library Setting- A Pilot Project Partnership Project Between SelamCompany, and WEEMA International (and in collaboration with Curious Learning)

ADDIS ABABA – Children are the most precious natural resource of any nation. Their ability to read is one of the single most important skills for them to develop, if they are to thrive as individuals and global citizens. Literacy opens the mind of a child to a potential lifetime of learning, personal growth, and critical and creative thinking. The development of such forms of thought in a society fuels discovery, productivity, and innovation, which, in turn, drive economic growth and social development.

In some part of Ethiopia, one in two children in lack the basic skills of read and write after attending 2 to 3 years of school. Can technology help children to learn to read and write by their own? Can we achieve high quality education using tablets to teach the most marginalized children in our community? Weema international believes that there is a proven method to teach children using tablets. We are going to launch our pilot project on March 30th, 2016 in Mudula town.

At the launch, 40 children will get access to the first step of the state of art education in the form of tablets. There will be 80 children will be benefited from this project in the next twelve months. Scientists in MIT and Tufts University under the curious learning organization support the pilot project. Children will also get support to advance in their learning.
