AHIF #DISCOVERAHIF15 #Ethiopia - Ahmed Ramdan’s biggest concern for the hospitality industry

Dear Colleague,

Talent - it's important for all of us.

Why aren't we pulling in more GCC nationals? Can we develop local grass roots outreach and insights teams? Is this a hopeless case? How can we improve these scenarios?

In a unique symposium sponsored by AHIC and Roya International, Jonathan Worsley will chair a stellar panel to discuss this important topic, and below speaks to Ahmed Ramdan, the Emirati pioneer who joined the industry when there were hardly any hotels to stay in, set to head the panel with other local and international decision makers.  Career bound seniors from NYU's Abu Dhabi campus elite Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Scholars Program will meet AHIC and talk openly about how they see the hospitality industry as a profession.

Jonathan Worsley asked Ahmed Ramdan why this initiative was important:

JW: Ahmed your group, Roya International is swamped with work. Why are you beginning this time consuming outreach program?

AR:  All good opportunities need investments, time and energy to make it happen.  This is a critical issue for the future of MENA hospitality and we want to really open the discussion.

JW:  Local recruiting is always a priority but has not been very successful-how will this change that?

AR:  We have to introduce the benefits of the hospitality industry directly to the students- frankly- most of them don't know that you don't have to go to hotel school to have a great career in hospitality.

JW:  Is this the start of something big? Sustainable?

AR:  We think so but to find out-come to the symposium! Seriously we are all very grateful to AHIC and Bench Events for supporting this important and unique MENA outreach program.  All of us will gain from direct talks with promising young students to see how they see us and what they want.
